I had gotten a phone call my new eyeglass prescription was ready. Bifocals, at thirty-nine, I couldn't believe it. My wife and daughter went with me to pick them up at the mall. I must admit, I had no idea how bad my eyes had gotten. When I put
(more) them on it was a new world everything razor sharp. Once we got back home we got out of the car and I looked up at the stars. What a shock! I forgot how many stars there were. I told my wife and daughter how amazed I was with my new glasses. We were all looking up in the sky together when I saw a streak of light. Honey, a shooting star, I haven’t seen one for years. Of course that drew their attention to the night sky also. “Hey! I just saw another. It was up there, look in that direction,” I said as I pointed skyward. Jeez another, that’s three. There must be a meteor shower or something. They strained but saw nothing. I said these glasses are great I can’t believe it everything is so sharp and clear. “Another ! I just say another,” I said excitedly, “How neat, my first night looking at the stars with my new glasses and I get to see a meteor shower.” I noticed the moon behind me, and turned to see how clear it was. All of a sudden zip the moon moved just as my ‘shooting stars’ had. I then realized it was the line in my Bifocals. When the stars hit that line they would zip to another position. That was 25 years ago and my wife and my daughter still kid me about my “meteor shower”. (less)
