About that time he started selling the bible, a feat I feel he would find an easier time of if the words were printed and held out to the poor woman, instead of tossed at her from between lips that never paused for breath.
They sky is full of stars, dim little bullet holes in a black canvas that swirls and morphs, drawing the soul upwards. That's not the darkness. I've stared into the abyss found in human hearts. It sucks you in, pulls at your bones until the pressure overtakes everything. Your veins fill with lead and you feel your blood sluggishly course a path through your body, each drop recognized and agonized.
I've seen just how awful everyone is, how thoughtless and vile. I know that I can't be the only one who is not like that. I know that I am like that, I just can't see it because the mirror reflects the outside. I think I'm thoughtful. Everyone thinks they are thoughtful. We're all wrong. We're all dark inside, trying to pretend we're good when we can't even tell what good is, anymore.
The weight of that pulls me down.
"I could use someone to lift me up right now," I hear the lady amiably tell the man, when he paused at the end of his speech.
"Have you seen her already?" She said as she came near him.
He winced in his seat as he was leaning back. Then he frowned and said. "Seen who?"
(more) She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Her of course."
He nodded. "Of course." Then he had a grin appear on his lips. "So honey, when's gonna be our next day."
Her bangs shook and she blushed. "Don't call me that." She turned her head to her left and to her right. The rest of the class wasn't paying attention to them and one guy was actually sleeping on his notebook. "You lost your mind?"
He waved his arms around. "Hey, I felt something with that hug and if that idiot detective didn't come along something would've happened."
She shut her eyes grit her teeth. "Sometimes, I don't know why I put up with you."
He yawned and leaned back on his seat some more. "Must be my undeniable charm."
She sighed and exhaled a long breath. "Looks, lets cut the BS. Just see her okay."
He looked at her face and tilted his head. He was opening his mouth when-
"I'm here!" She slammed her fist on his desk and her jerk up. "You guys looking for me?" she said and her ponytail fluttered.
"You have the best timing." she said. She moved her bangs away as she massaged his forehead.
"Who me?" Ponytail pointed to herself. "Of course. Of course."
He closed his eyes and leaned on his desk but Ponytail stopped.
"Listen Cuz, you gotta talk to her." She said eyes blink rapidly. "It's serious."
He drew a deep breath. "I did."
Both of the girls shouted. "Really?" "Serious?"
"No fucking way." It was the student waking up. "Just choose someone already. Or choose me, I'm hotter."
