I fell down the drainage pipe without a second glance as to my pursuers. They had not yet found the tracks leading me here, as to where here was, I was not certain. The pipe itself led downwards ever so slightly towards the river.
(more) I could hear shouting at one of the exits above me, it seems the guards were tipped off! I race to the furthest ladder and dash upwards with every ounce of strength, I shove at the bars. Nothing happens-I jump down and try the next, this one seems to be rusted and I contort my body through the small opening. Something splashes close, too close.
The voices have stopped, seems an argument ensues? The splashing gets louder, more constant. The air in the tunnel changes, it's different, oily. Light from above casts shadows all around me and it's only when a flare shoots down do I realize what's happening. They have resorted to burning the very water! I dive under just as the flare catches fire to some dry debris and the oil vapors ignite with a flash.
I struggle for breathe as I swim around a bend, hopelessly looking for a way out, away from the smoke, the fire, this blasted tunnel I find myself in! The air is slowly draining from my lungs, I can only hold my breath for so long. I light ahead!
I swim for everything I'm worth, and the light increases. The tunnel gets brighter and brighter as I near the white void. I reach the blinding white and through squinting eyes, see that I have made it to the ocean! My eyes adjust to the blinding sun, and only then do I realize my predicament. The tunnel ends hundreds of feet above the ocean. Do I dare jump? (less)
